Accessibility statement

22 October 2026

This site is built so that anyone can use it — with a mouse, with a keyboard, or with a screen reader. This statement says what it aims for, what has actually been checked, what has not, and how to tell me when something does not work.

Conformance target

This site is being built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.

This statement is our own: it has not been verified by the W3C and not independently audited. The method used and what is still outstanding are set out below.

Measures taken

  • Full keyboard operation, with a predictable focus order and a focus indicator that is visible against every background on the site.
  • A skip link to the main content, semantic landmarks (header, navigation, main, footer) and a single h1 per page.
  • Colour contrast verified by calculation: body text reaches 10.68:1, well above the AA minimum.
  • Text reflows down to 320 px wide with no loss of content and no horizontal scrolling.
  • The system's reduced-motion preference is respected.
  • Each page declares its language, so a screen reader pronounces it correctly.
  • The language switcher is made of real links: it works with the keyboard and with JavaScript disabled.

How this was checked

  • Automated axe-core analysis against the WCAG 2.2 A and AA rule set, in all five languages and on every page, at 320, 390, 1280 and 1440 px wide.
  • A 320 px reflow probe, and a check that no heading overflows its box.
  • A full keyboard walk in both directions, confirming that the focused element is never obscured.
  • Focus-indicator contrast computed from the design tokens against every page background, with a 3.1:1 floor.
  • An automated check that there are no console errors and no requests to third-party servers.
  • Manual checking in Chromium and in WebKit, the engine behind Safari and every browser on iPhone.

Known limitations

No test with a real screen reader (VoiceOver, NVDA or TalkBack) has been done yet. The checks above are automated and keyboard-based, and they do not replace that test.

No external audit has been carried out. Automated tools cover well under half of the level AA criteria, so this statement describes the work done, not a guarantee.

The portrait on the home page is a temporary low-resolution image, awaiting a full-resolution replacement.

Report a barrier

If you find something you cannot use, or you need content in another format, email me at info [at] xeniolinguae.com. Tell me which page you were on, what you were trying to do and, if it is relevant, which assistive technology you use. I reply, and I fix what is within my power to fix.

Preparation

This statement was prepared by the person who built the site, on the basis of the checks described above, and will be reviewed whenever the site changes materially. The date and the method change with every new check; the conformance target changes only if it stops being true.
